David Rivera Calls Obama Out on Federal Spending
As Republicans in Congress look to cut $100 billion from the federal budget, Florida Republican U.S. Rep. David Rivera attacked President Barack Obama for standing in the way of a trimmer federal government.
This week, President Obama showed his unwillingness to tackle the serious fiscal issues that face America, said Rivera. After proposing a $3.7 trillion budget that maintains the bloated spending levels of recent years, he is threatening to veto the $100 billion in spending cuts proposed by the House. President Obama fails to recognize the need for substantial cuts and chooses instead to push the burden of his historic deficits onto future generations as opposed to finding a solution now.
Our federal budget has outpaced inflation and the growth of the American family budget, continued Rivera. We already spend $7 million every minute of every hour of every day. Our $14 trillion national debt is more than 100 percent of Americas entire economy. We have to borrow 40 cents on the dollar to maintain that pace, paying astronomical amounts of interest to the tune of $1.27 billion each day. Those numbers should frighten every American.
House Republicans recognize that government borrowing and spending is a barrier to private-sector job creation, concluded Rivera. Simply put: The more the government spends, the more employers hesitate to create jobs. Washingtons spending spree is coming to an end. We are implementing fiscally responsible policies with the future of our nation in mind. I hope that the president and Democrats in the Senate will come around and work with us to produce a responsible budget that helps get people back to work as opposed to simply ignoring the deepening debt crisis.
