David Jolly Showcases Record on Fishing Issues

Running to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., in 2016, U.S. Rep. David Jolly, R-Fla., unveiled his “Florida Fishing Industry Council” to focus on fishing issues on Thursday.

“It is critical that federal and state government agencies work with stakeholders from each sector of the state's fishing community to ensure healthy and sustainable fisheries for generations to come,” Jolly said.  “Through improved management of red snapper, to combating the spread of the invasive lionfish species, and to encouraging additional research of complex marine hazards like red tide, I continue to put great emphasis on protecting our waters, coastlines and fisheries.  I am honored to have the endorsement of the leaders of our state's fishing industry.  Together, we can improve opportunities for our recreational fisherman, and continue to grow our economy by strengthening our charter boat and commercial sectors.”

Jolly showcased his work in Congress to fund a new Gulf of Mexico fisheries research program to be managed by the National Marine Fisheries Service and efforts to improve Apalachicola Bay.
