Darryl Rouson and Wife Owe More than 157k in Income Taxes

Rep. Darryl Rouson, D-St. Petersburg, has found himself in hot water with finances again.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, a recent Internal Revenue Service lien showed Rouson and his wife, Angela, did not pay the IRS over $157,000 in back taxes.During one of the years Rouson owed in the lien 2008 through 2010 Rouson, an attorney, had a high-paying job at the Tampa firm Morgan & Morgan that paid him $565,000 a year.

I dont take this lightly, Rouson told the TimesTuesday. I am working with my CPA and my tax attorney, and Im very optimistic this will all get resolved. Its been a tough summer, he added.

The latest news comes a week after Rouson was ousted as House Democratic leader after he set up his own fundraising committee which bypassed the traditional party system. His fellow Democrats weren't too happy with him over the fundraising, and some even said he was depositing checks meant for the Democratic Party into his own pocket.

Rouson declared bankruptcy over a decade ago while owing $360,000 to the IRS. He was still in bankruptcy proceedings when he and his wife borrowed money to build a 4,400-square-foot St. Petersburg home, according to theTimes.
