Dan Webster Looks Back at First Month in Congress
Freshman Republican U.S. Rep. Dan Webster reviewed his first month in Congress on Thursday.
Having served as speaker of the Florida House and majority leader of the state Senate, Webster mightbe new to Congress but he is no stranger to politics. He defeated Democrat U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson in November in one of the most watched congressional races in the nation.
I have the great opportunity to serve Central Floridians in Congress and hit the ground running to turn off the spigot of spending, and change the way business is done in Washington, noted Webster in an e-mail sent out to supporters on Thursday.
The new congressman focused on several high points from his month in Washington, signalizing out backing the repeal of the federal health care law backed by President Barack Obama, returning federal spending to what it was in 2008, and looking to end taxpayer financing of presidential campaigns and conventions.
Webster added that he thought he was running his office in a fiscally responsible fashion.
Hard-working families and individuals across Florida are cutting back, making sacrifices and adjusting their budgets, noted Webster. Continuing this pattern of prioritization, I am not accepting the federal health care plan and have cut the office budget by 5 percent.
That is just the first month, concluded Webster. We can do more and we will do more."
