Dan Gelber Calls for Investment Fraud Unit in AG's Office

At a campaign event in Sarasota on Friday morning, Sen. Dan Gelber of Miami Beach, the Democratic candidate for attorney general, called for the creation of a unit in the attorney generals office to investigate investment fraud. Gelber also weighed in on Arthur Nadel, a Sarasota resident who was sentenced to 14 years due to leading a ponzi scheme.

The unconscionable crime that Arthur Nadel committed against unsuspecting families and charities is a prime example of the need to better protect Floridians against investment fraud, said Gelber. As attorney general, I will create an investment fraud unit staffed with experts in securities fraud ready to investigate and prosecute financial criminals to the full extent of the law. The attorney generals office was recently given expanded authority by the Legislature to go after these criminals, and I intend to use it. Many financial crimes with substantial ties to Florida are prosecuted in other states, but on my watch, the attorney generals office will take every action necessary to protect Florida victims in Florida courts.
