Legoland Florida opened this weekend in Winter Haven at the site of the old Cypress Gardens.
Merlin Entertainments Group remade the 150-acre site into a venue that targets the ages 2-12 crowd.
Sources told Sunshine State News that Merlin spent $500 million to $750 million to construct Legoland while maintaining the historic gardens and plantation house.
The star opening attraction at the theme park -- Lego's fifth and largest -- is the Mini-land section, which recreates national landmarks and Florida cities. Some 30 million little plastic bricks were used in this section alone.
One of a wave of Orlando-area park expansions, Legoland plans to hire 1,000 employees.
