Cuban-American Boycott Called after Ozzie Guillen’s 'I Love Fidel Castro'

Ozzie Guillen, the manager of the Miami Marlins, will be flying back to Miami Tuesday, during a break in the ongoing series in Philadelphia, to address remarks he made in a Time magazine story, where he is quoted as saying, I love Fidel Castro.

Miguel Saavedra, head of Vigilia Mambisa, is planning a protest at Marlins Park in Little Havana on Tuesday and is calling for a boycott of the Marlins until Guillen is forced to resign.

In the Time article, Guillen is quoted as saying, I respect Fidel Castro. You know why? Many people have tried to kill Fidel Castro in the last 60 years, yet that [SOB] is still there.

Guillen has already started to backtrack on the comments that are volatile anywhere, but especially so in South Florida where feelings run deep about the island nation 90 miles to the south.

The team, which doesnt return to its new ballpark until Friday, already issued a release stating: There is nothing to respect about Fidel Castro.

He is a brutal dictator who has caused unthinkable pain for more than 50 years. We live in a community filled with victims of this dictatorship, and the people in Cuba continue to suffer today.
