Crist Goes After Obama Health Care Efforts as Whispers Grow He is Leaving GOP

As the rumors swirl that he is planning to abandon the GOP primary to continue running for the U.S. Senate, Gov. Charlie Crist is using yesterdays health care summit in Washington to reinforce his Republican credentials. In a press release, Crist said. While it was great to see the President acknowledge that the Republican ideas offered were good ones, it seemed evident that President Obama and the Democrat Majority remain committed to passing only their version of the bill. A Democrat health care plan that raises taxes, raises rates, and cuts Medicare is not the kind of change that Americans want. Crist also noted Americans have voiced their opposition to a government run health care bill time and time again, and its time that Democrats in Washington listen to the people, and start this process over in a truly bipartisan fashion.

Both the Hill and the South Florida Sun-Sentinel had reports yesterday that Crist had decided that, as there was no way he could catch Marco Rubio in the primary, he was considering leaving the GOP and continuing his Senate campaign as an independent. Crists team has denied these charges and claims that they were brought up by the Rubio camp in an effort to distract attention from the recent release of Rubios RPOF American Express records.
