Craig Miller Praises E-Verify; Wants Florida to Follow Arizona on Immigration
While the state government of Florida adding the federal E-Verify computer program to crack down on hiring illegal immigrants has been an issue in the contentious Republican gubernatorial primary, now a congressional candidate is bringing up the issue to reinforce his conservative credentials on immigration.
Former Ruth's Chris CEO Craig Miller, facing a tight Republican primary contest to take on U.S. Rep. Suzanne Kosmas, praised E-Verify early Monday and called for the Sunshine State to implement an Arizona-style immigration law.
"The state of Florida is late to the game, but I'm pleased that they have put in place a measure that my companies and many others have been using for years," said Miller. "I have found E-Verify to be an effective way at weeding out illegal immigrants, and once illegals learn that a company uses E-Verify, they go somewhere else to apply. An immigrant's first act in this country should not be an illegal one. Florida should follow up with this by enacting an Arizona-type law. We must secure our borders. It is a matter of national security and an economic imperative".
