Conservative First Coast House Candidate Stumbles in 3Q Fundraising

Conservative activist Kim Kendall has filed to run against state Rep. Mike Weinstein, R-Orange Park, who currently represents parts of Clay, Duval and St. Johns counties. With Kendall living in the northern part of St. Johns County, there is talk that she may end up running for the seat currently held by retiring Rep. Bill Proctor, R-St. Augustine, who represents parts of Clay, Flagler and St. Johns counties.

With the backing of religious conservative leaders like John Stemberger and Republican leaders like Sen. John Thrasher of Jacksonville, Kendall started off strong with fundraising -- bringing in around $25,000 in donations and $10,000 in loans. Her fundraising in the third quarter was not as strong. Kendall brought in $3,000 and spent almost $5,700. While she has raised almost $28,000 so far, she has spent almost $20,500 of it.

Weinstein, on the other hand, brought in almost $30,700 and spent less than $8,900 in the third quarter.

There are already two Republicans running for Proctors seat. Michael Alan Davis brought in $15,700 in the third quarter and spent less than $4,900. Terry Shoemaker raised almost $8,000 in the same period and spent less than $1,350.

Kendall should have around $18,000 on hand, which makes her competitive for Proctors seat for the moment. Davis has more than $28,000 in the bank and Shoemaker has around $13,500 on hand. Having loaned his campaign $100,000, Weinstein should have around $158,000 in the bank.
