Connie Mack Weighs in on Congress Adjourning Without Extending Tax Cuts

With Democrats adjourning Congress on Thursday, Republicans took the opportunity to point out that they had not extended tax cuts backed by George W. Bush in 2001 and 2003.

Its a real shame that the Democratic leadership has chosen to adjourn Congress and leave town without bothering to prevent a massive tax increase that is set to take effect on Jan. 1 if we dont act, said Republican U.S. Rep. Connie Mack. Right now, businesses across Southwest Florida and the country are struggling. At a round table in Fort Myers last week, several small-business owners told me that they are hesitant to expand their businesses because they dont know if their tax rates are going to rise next year. This uncertainty is stalling our economic recovery and preventing job creation.

What is it going to take for the Democratic leadership to listen to the American people? demanded Mack. Even 39 members of their own party voted against adjourning until the tax cuts are passed. American families and businesses deserve better.
