Connie Mack Rips into Obama's Call for $53 Billion for High-Speed Rail
U.S. Rep. Connie Mack agreed with fellow Florida Republican U.S. Rep. John Mica that the Obama administrations plan to spend $53 billion for high-speed rail projects shows the president is showing no restraint on spending. Mack took aim at the plan on Tuesday, as well as a proposed influx of more than $40 billion to the states for unemployment.
Has the president no shame in suggesting a new $53 billion, big-government project on the same day he contemplates a $42 billion bailout of states unemployment funds? demanded Mack. Barely a week after his State of the Union address, President Obama has not gotten the message that government is the problem, not the solution.Big government did not build this nations railway system, and why isnt the administration exploring free-market solutions for something like high-speed rail? As we celebrate Ronald Reagans 100th birthday we should remember he said, 'The most terrifying words in the English language are, 'I'm from the government and I'm here to help.'"
Mack is a possible Republican candidate looking to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012.
