Connie Mack Kept 'Em Guessing
Politico.com's David Catanese reported Friday that Connie Mack kept even his closest allies guessing on the will-he-run question -- and guessing wrongly. Even Mack's home county Lee County chairman Gary Lee called just before Mack's announcement to tell Politico, "It's a go. All signs have indicated a green light ... the same place as his Dad announced for the Senate."
Said Catanese, "Despite his name recognition, Mack would've carried baggage into a statewide candidate for his views on immigration and the complicated living arrangement he has with his wife, Rep. Mary Bono Mack."
But Mack's departure from the race most political pundits were convinced he would run leaves only two definites: Senate President Mike Haridopolos and former Col. Mike McCalister.
Expect more dama to come: We still have former House leader Adam Hasner and Sen. George LeMieux measuring their chances.
