Connie Mack Hammers Obama on Matter Regarding Drug Lord

While he is currently engaged in a fight with U.S. Rep. Tom Price to see who takes over the Republican Policy Committee, the fifth man in charge of the Republican majority, U.S. Rep. Connie Mack from Florida, took aim at President Barack Obama on international issues on Monday.

Mack, the ranking Republican on the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, attacked Obama as news broke that drug lord Walid Makled-Garcia, who was arrested in Columbia back in August and faces charges in the U.S., could be headed to Venezuela instead of America.

Reports that drug kingpin Walid Makled-Garcia will likely escape justice are deeply troubling and represent the chronic failure of U.S. foreign policy in Latin America, said Mack. The unacceptable transfer of drug kingpin Makled-Garcia and his vital information to Venezuela instead of the United States would mark a devastating loss for the Drug Enforcement Administration, the combined fight against drug trafficking, and the security of the entire region.

The Obama administration has once again squandered important relationships in this hemisphere, and this latest news is just another example of an unfocused foreign policy, added Mack. By refusing to take a harder line with Venezuelas Hugo Chavez, the administration has allowed this dangerous thugocrat to gain a foothold in the region and influence his neighbors.

Mack added that Markled-Garcia was a key figure in the drug trade flourishing in Venezuela under Chavez. Mack has been a vocal critic of Chavez during his tenure in Congress.
