Connie Mack Comes Out Swinging at Obama on Free Trade
Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Connie Mack said on Monday that President Barack Obama was playing politics over free-trade agreements (FTA) with Colombia, Panama and South Korea. The agreements have been stalled throughout 2011 as the White House looked to extend the Trade Adjustment Assistance program (TAA), which provides benefits for American workers who have lost their jobs due to international trade agreements.
Nine hundred and sixty-five days into his presidency, Americans are still wondering why President Obama hasnt sent to Congress the pending free-trade agreements with Panama, Colombia and South Korea, said Mack, chairman of the House Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, in a statement released late on Monday. As he shames the Congress on passing his jobs plan, there have been job growth packages held up by the White House at the request of union bosses. Mr. President, stop playing politics and send the Congress the FTAs.
