Common Core Standards Training Coming to Florida Teachers

Florida teachers are about to learn a great deal more about the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS). On Monday, the state Department of Education announced it will be holding seven events, each lasting two days, at high schools across the state this summer to get educators ready for the new standards.

The Common Core State Standards will help ensure Floridas students are well-prepared to compete for jobs and college admissions in todays global marketplace, said Dr. Tony Bennett, Floridas education commissioner, on Monday. Through the Common Core Summer Institutes, Floridas teachers are engaging in meaningful professional development over the summer in order to successfully implement a more rigorous set of academic standards. I cant thank them enough for their dedication and hard work on behalf of their students.

The first event starts Tuesday in Santa Rosa County. Later in June, there will be Common Core Summer Institutes in Pinellas County. Palm Beach County and Duval County will host Common Core Summer Institutes in July.
