Citigroup Calculates Spill Impact on Home Builders
A new Citigroup report is giving readers a peek at how home builders on the Gulf of Mexico coastline could be affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The report covers all Gulf Coast states, but it breaks down special statistics for the Tampa Bay/Sarasota region.
Of the 10 companies reviewed, D.R. Horton, Inc., the largest, has the most property in the Gulf region. Of its 818 properties, 17 percent are in the Gulf. It has 37 in Florida, and 27 of those are in the Tampa Bay/Sarasota area. The Lennar Corp. has 15 percent of its properties in the Gulf and 19 properties in Florida, the majority of which are in the Tampa Bay/Sarasota region.
The analysis says it's too soon to tell how these properties will be affected by the spill, but the statistics should give investors a good idea of the size of the impact the spill could have on property.
