Cigars, Whiskey and Sandy Adams at Downtown D.C. Fundraiser
So much for political correctness and good health. Rep. Sandy Adams will be the "special guest" at a "Cigar and Whiskey Tasting" in downtown Washington, D.C., April 24.
The event, a fundraiser for fellow Rep. Renee Ellmers, R-N.C., "suggests" contributions in a range of $500 to $2,000.
Event organizer Franny Decker said the evening get-together was strictly "a fundraiser for Congresswoman Ellmers" and Adams spokeswoman Lisa Boothe confirmed that her boss had been asked by Ellmers "to stop in."
"She is not receiving anything from this," Boothe said of Adams. "Additionally, the congresswoman does not smoke or drink, so she will not be partaking."
Both Adams, R-Orlando, and Ellmers are freshmen who were elected to Congress with strong tea party support. Ellmers narrowly won her 2010 race and, this year, Adams faces a tough GOP primary against veteran Rep. John Mica, also R-Orlando.
