China Wants to Export 8,000 'Guest Workers' to Bahamas

Just a few miles off the coast of Florida, China is reported to be investing $2.5 billion in a massive tourist complex near Nassau.
China is demanding that the Bahamas issue work permits for 8,150 Chinese workers, who would constitute roughly three-quarters of the work force needed to construct the Baha Mar facility.
The Center for Immigration Studies in Washington, D.C., takes a dim view of this latest Chinese export scheme, noting that the needed workers "could easily be drawn from the Bahamas labor pool."
While the Bahamian government is understandably dragging its feet on Beijing's request, tens of thousands of unemployed construction workers remain idle in Florida. Go figure.
