Charlie Stone Backs Mary Thomas in CD2
State Rep. Charlie Stone, R-Ocala, announced on Monday he was backing Tallahassee attorney Mary Thomas to take on U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham, D-Fla.
Stone’s district, which includes all of Levy County and parts of Marion County, could be included in Graham’s congressional district. Currently, a Tallahassee judge is handling congressional redistricting after a special session held last month failed to draw up new maps.
"I am pleased to endorse conservative Republican Mary Thomas for Congress," Stone said on Monday. "Mary shares the same conservative, family values as me and the constituents I represent in Marion and Levy counties. I believe Mary will bring true conservative change to Washington to lower taxes and reduce the size and scope of the federal government.”
"Our campaign is set to organize a grassroots conservative movement across the Panhandle, throughout North and North Central Florida and along the Nature Coast,” Thomas said. “Everywhere I travel, the people tell me that it's time to elect a new generation of conservative leaders, not another lobbyist. I thank Rep. Charlie Stone for his endorsement and I look forward to fighting for our shared conservative principles of lower taxes and less government.”
Dr. Neal Dunn is also running for the Republican nomination.
