Charlie Crist Memoir Draws RPOF's Fire
Former Gov. Charlie Crist drew the fire of Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) Chairman Lenny Curry on Monday. Despite spending most of his political career as a Republican, Crist is the favorite for the Democratic nomination to challenge Gov. Rick Scott in November.
Curry sent out a memo on Monday bashing Crist, whose memoir comes out on Tuesday. Curry wrote:
Charlie Crist's new book hits the shelves tomorrow morning and the reviews are already bad. Marc Caputo of the Miami Herald warns "readers beware," because the book "rewrites some history." George Bennett of The Palm Beach Post notes that while Crist attempts to attack the GOP, it "fails to detail how Crist drifted with it for a while." And Andrew Kaczynski points out to readers of BuzzFeed that "there is almost nothing Charlie Crist hasn't flip-flopped on."
But Charlie Crist's book isn't just an attempt to run away from his record and run toward Barack Obama. Just as Barack Obama did before seeking federal elected office, Charlie Crist is using this book to build a national brand.
In addition to his embrace of Barack Obama's binge spending and government-takeover-of-health-care agenda, Charlie Crist is using this upcoming book tour as just another tactic in a transparent strategy to further himself in the national political scene:
He's appeared at fundraisers for the Louisiana and Georgia Democratic parties.
He hobnobbed with Washington Democrats at a fundraiser for Terry McAuliffe. He even attended McAuliffe's inauguration.
He'll be going back to Washington in March to be the Democratic speaker at the Gridiron Dinner.
Just take a look at Charlie's schedule this week: he's starting his book tour by talking to a national audience on MSNBC, CNN, Comedy Central, and HBO, prioritizing the development of his national brand over the necessity of talking to his constituents in Florida.
As Charlie basks in the glow of being a national spokesperson for the Barack Obama-led Democratic Party, and with members of Obama's campaign team all coming down to sell him to Floridians all over again, it's clear that Charlie Crist has become Barack Obama's new favorite Democrat.
President Obama is famous for attacking and blaming Republicans for his own failed leadership, and it looks like Charlie Crist is using the same playbook with his new publication: attack Republicans to cover up a failed record of massive unemployment, record state debt and an economy that did worse than the rest of the nation.
And as we point out in our new ad, Charlie Crist ran away to try to become a creature of Washington instead of fixing the mess he caused. Now, with this upcoming book tour, it looks like Barack Obama's favorite Democrat is only running for governor to use it as a stepping stone for something larger for himself.
Floridians beware.
