Charlie Crist Making Rounds in South Florida, Possibly Gearing Up for 2014
Former Gov. Charlie Crist has spent the last few days in South Florida renewing ties and meeting with old pals, ultimately raising suspicions he's gearing up for the 2014 gubernatorial race.
Democrats will need a high turnout in Broward and Palm Beach counties if they want to win the election against Gov. Rick Scott, which is why re-establishing ties with old allies could be beneficial for Crist.
On Friday, Crist met with former Palm Beach County Commissioner Burt Aaronson, who had endorsed Crist for U.S. Senate in 2010. The two have been friends for years and attended college at Florida State University together. Crist also met with former Sen. Steve Geller on the Gold Coast and held a luncheon with a group of African-American community leaders in Fort Lauderdale.
Crist said he wouldn't make up his mind about running for governor until the fall, but the clock is now ticking louder than ever as summer comes to a close.
"I think that in order to mount an effective race, you've got to have time, and by the fall, I'll reach a conclusion," Crist said.
