Charlie Crist Dashes to Post $245,500 in January Contributions

In a frantic dash to dispel talks that his fundraising numbers are lagging, Charlie Crist posted $245,500 in contributions to wrap up the month of January.

Sunshine State News published a story Wednesday highlighting what many have called a downward spiral of fundraising for Charlie Crist. At the time the story was published, Feb. 5, Crist had posted only $375,000 in fundraising during the first month.
After what was looking to be a pathetic fundraising month, Crist threw money into the account within the past two days, posting 31 new contributions totalling $245,500.
When asked in January if it was more difficult to raise money as a Democrat than as a Republican, Crist responded: So far, no. Its been wonderful.

But fundraising analysts told Sunshine State News that Crists dropping numbers were highly unusual, regardless of his party affiliation.

Crists fundraising started out strong; he brought in $2.1 million in November. And in December, normally a slow month, he raked in $727,000.

But even with the new contributions tacked onto Januarys abysmal numbers, theres no denying that the number has dropped off, as he raised $621,000 -- a far cry from his first month campaigning and less than the previous months total.

The numbers still dont address talks that Democrats are hesitant to donate to Crist, who has become notorious for his flip-flopping politics.

Susan Hepworth of the Republican Party of Florida told SSN that Democrats dont trust Crist, and the rumblings of discontent within Crists campaign team still havent abated. Crists camp has been riddled with a series of switch-ups in leadership, with former campaign manager Bill Hyers calling it quits early on in the campaign.

Michael Hoffman, who was Crists deputy finance director, split with the camp before the end of the year.
Regardless of whats in the water at Crists campaign, theres no denying his fundraising is dropping off, and when pitted against Gov. Rick Scott and his massive fundraising machine, Crist appears all too much like a little fish in a pond full of piranhas.
