Casey Anthony Acquitted of Murder, Manslaughter in Death of Daughter

Casey Anthony, accused of killing her toddler daughter, was acquitted of murder and manslaughter charges in Orange County Circuit Court Tuesday.

She was convicted of three counts of providing false information to law-enforcement officers during the investigation of 2-year-old Caylee's death, Sentencing was set for 9 a.m. Thursday.

Jurors, who were selected from Pinellas County and were sequestered during the six-week trail, deliberated just 10 hours.

Had Anthony been convicted of the top count of first-degree murder, she could have faced the death penalty.

As court adjourned, a tearful Anthony hugged defense counsel Jose Baez, who was roundly criticized by courtroom commentators.

In the end, however, it appeared that the prosecution failed to produce a case beyond circumstantial evidence.

Anthony's parents, George and Cindy, remained stone-faced as the verdicts were read and quickly left the courtroom.

During the trial, Anthony's defense attempted to impugn George as a sex abuser and portrayed Casey as a victim.

Afterward, Cheney Mason, speaking for the defense team, assailed "incompetent talking heads" in the media, who invariably condemend Anthony and predicted her conviction.

A subdued Baez said he had "mixed feelings about the situation," noting that the circumstances surrounding Caylee's death remain a mystery.
