Carol Wehle: Gov. Rick Scott Did Not Show Me the Door
Executive Director Carol Wehle spoke before a full house at Thursday morning's South Florida Water Management District meeting, explaining why she announced her retirement the day before -- insisting she wasn't leaving because the governor wanted her to go.
She said the decision wasn't that sudden, that she has been considering retirement "for several weeks."
At the end of her address she clarified that she will retire from SFWMD, not from work altogether, and after a few weeks of recuperation she will look for work in the private sector.
After the meeting a district employee told Sunshine State News, "Nobody believes she was considering retirement for several weeks, that's ridiculous. At the last staff meeting, after the Post story came out, she made a point of telling us she wasn't going anywhere, that's why she made such a pep rally of it, she said she was going to get through all this stuff.
"Sunshine (State) News got it right. She got pressure from Tallahassee."
Stories in the last three weeks detailing Wehle's problems at the district can be found here in the Post, in Sunshine State News, and in Broward Bulldog.
