Carlos Lopez-Cantera to Announce Senate Run in Miami
Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera will be announcing his run for the U.S. Senate Wednesday in Miami, according to a release sent Tuesday by his campaign team.
The official announcement has been a long time coming, since Lopez-Cantera already hinted he was "strongly considering" a run for Senate several times over the last few months. In June, the lieutenant governor told Miami-Dade Republicans he would make a formal announcement July 15.
"If I get in this race, I know that it will be a long road," he said. "It will be a tough road. But if we get into it together there is nothing that can stand in our way.”
Lopez-Cantera has been Florida's LG since 2014. Prior to his term as LG, he served as the property appraiser for Dade County and also served for eight years in the Florida House of Representatives.
The announcement will be held at 1:30 p.m. at All-American Containers in Miami.
