Carlos Curbelo: Tsai Ing-wen's Election in Taiwan 'Extraordinary Victory'

U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla., offered his take as Tsai Ing-wen was elected last week to be Taiwan’s next president. 

“I congratulate the people of Taiwan for electing its first female president, Tsai Ing-wen, an extraordinary victory," Curbelo said on Tuesday. “During my first year in Congress, I worked with current President Ma's government, and I applaud them for their diligent efforts to promote democracy. I commend Taiwan on this momentous occasion; the United States is fortunate to have an ally and friend in them. The world is a better place when all of its democracies are able participate in the exchange of ideas, and I look forward to continue working with the new government.”
