Carl Domino Files Paperwork to Run Against Patrick Murphy

Despite losing his last two primary battles, on Friday, former Florida Rep. Carl Domino filed his paperwork to run for the Republican nomination to challenge freshman U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Fla., in 2014.

Domino faces a potentially crowded field. Juno Beach City Commissioner Ellen Andel and former Connecticut state Rep. Alan Schlesinger, best known for being the Republican candidate running against then-U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman in the Nutmeg State back in 2006, are already running for the Republican nomination. Rep. Gayle Harrell, R-Port St. Lucie, and former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner are considering entering the primary.

Back in 2010, Domino lost a primary battle for a state Senate seat against Ellyn Bogdanoff. Trying to return to the Florida House, in 2012, Domino lost the Republican primary to MaryLynn Magar. But despite those loses, Domino does have some impressive credentials. A Vietnam veteran, Domino served in the Navy, retiring as a commander in the reserves back in 1989. With a Harvard MBA, Domino, who turns 70 next year, has done well in the private sector as an investments manager. He served four terms in the Florida House, serving in the leadership as majority whip.
