Cabinet Makes It Official: Prendergast New Department of Veterans Affairs Exec
Members of the Cabinet easily gave their unanimous approval Wednesday afternoon to Gov. Rick Scott's nomination of Col. Mike Prendergast as Florida's new executive director of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Prendergast has served in various leadership roles for the U.S. Army, including military police officer, foreign area officer and legislative liaison officer. Scott had appointed him his chief of staff earlier this year.
"I am confident that Mike is the best person to lead this agency and advocate on behalf of our veterans," said Scott.
Putnam was the first, but not the only Cabinet member to second the governor's motion to appoint Prendergast.
"I can't think of a better fighter for our returning men and women coming home to Florida, and with our strong military presence in this state, we have more than our fair share of military veterans coming home to Florida," said Putman. "Mike's going to be the leader to be there for them and make sure they're able to avail themselves of all the benefits they have so richly earned, and sacrificed so much to receive."
Bondi and Atwater also approved and seconded Scott's motion.
"I am deeply honored by your endorsement to serve as executive director of the Department of Veterans Affairs," Prendergast said. "I deeply appreciate the confidence of this Cabinet and I remain fully committed to this challenging task of serving the people of the great state of Florida."
