Bud Chiles Will Pull Out on Thursday and Back Alex Sink for Governor
Submitted by Kevin Derby on September 1, 2010 - 3:49pm
The campaign team of Bud Chiles announced on Wednesday afternoon that their candidate would end his independent gubernatorial bid on Thursday in Tallahassee and endorse state CFO Alex Sink, the Democratic nominee. While some polls showed Chiles pulling in the teens, he simply was not able to gain traction to pose a challenge to Sink or Republican candidate Rick Scott. Third party and independent candidates have traditionally not fared well in the Sunshine State with the exception of Prohibition Party candidate Sidney Catts who was elected governor in 1916 after a disputed Democratic primary.
