Bud Chiles Rips into Alex Sink's Energy Plan

Independent gubernatorial candidate Bud Chiles looked over the energy plan proposed by state CFO Alex Sink, the likely Democratic gubernatorial nominee, and said he did not care for it.

The people of Florida are ready for a real and meaningful commitment to renewable energy, said Chiles on Wednesday.Unfortunately, the strategy offered by Alex Sink promises only studies and half-measures.Without specific goals for conservation or alternative fuels, Florida will get more of the same rate increases that will cost families another $1,000 a year by 2020.

Thats what the power companies want and its why they have invested millions of ratepayers dollars in the Democrat and Republican parties, added Chiles before launching into his own ideas on energy. By contrast, the plan Ive offered would help revitalize Floridas construction industry now and create good new jobs in the renewable-energy sector.By requiring 20 percent of our power to be produced with renewable energy and by achieving a 2 percent conservation rate -- we will also help protect our air, our land and our water from pollution. And we will generate savings for families.

The time for endless studies and toothless promises is over, concluded Chiles.Floridians expect and deserve renewable-energy options now.
