Bromance Continues: David Axelrod Hearts Charlie Crist

Hardly surprising that senior Barack Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod wears his heart on his sleeve where Charlie Crist is concerned. The Obama camp wants the fallen former Republican governor back in the president's warm embrace.

While he was in Gainesville Wednesday night, Axelrod told the Tampa Times this:

The president has a very high regard for Governor Crist. He made a really courageous decision back in 2009 and there's no doubt that he made it because he thought it was what was best for the state of Florida. He understood the politics were difficult and he made it nonetheless. He deserves enormous credit for that and the courage he showed. You know we all talk about that we want public officials who are willing to put the next generation ahead of the next election and he was willing to make a decision like that. So we admire him.

Axelrod's admiration goes way back. To April 2010, as a matter of fact, just after Crist bolted from the GOP to run for U.S. Senate as a no-party candidate. That's when Axelrod told George Stephanopoulos on ABC's "Good Morning America" that Crist's drop-out decision showed the GOP is increasingly moving further to the right and blocking out those who don't fit in that mold.

"I think it's interesting," he said. "Crist was three years ago sort of a golden boy of the Republican Party, vice presidential possibility. What a beautiful and perfect candidate. They recruited him for this Senate race and now he's been run out of the party. It really speaks to the way the party is moving to the right."

Axelrod's back again -- oh, he isn't in Florida to reel that "beautiful and perfect candidate" in, Charlie is already "in" with the Dems. But everyone knows that the quickest way for a "Republican" to get popular in Big Media's eyes is to denounce the Repubs as too extreme and conservative. That's what Axelrod was up to as he answered the Charlie Crist question. He was reminding BM why Charlie should be their boyfriend, just as he is his own.

I think it worked.
