BREAKING: Florida Restaurant Owner Will NOT Implement 'Obamacare Surcharge' ... Yet
Sunshine State News has just learned that, contrary to earlier reports, a Floridarestaurateur will not be implementing a 5 percent "Obamacare surcharge" at his 45 restaurants ... at least, not quite yet.
Spokespersons for John Metz have clarified to the News that his comments were purely speculative. Metz will only consider imposing the surcharge if thePatient Protection and Affordable Care Act is amended so as to require business owners to provide health coverage if they hire 50 full-time equivalent employees, rather than simply 50 full-time employees.
For purposes of the law, a full-time employee is one who works 30 hours a week or more. A full-time equivalent would be an employee who works a certain number of hours (including overtime) within a legally determined time period.
Metz's 45 restaurants -- 40 Denny's and fiveHurricane Grill & Wings franchises -- will, however, be reducing several employees' schedules to 28 hours once the Act goes into effect in 2013, so as to keep below the 50 full-time-employee threshold.
More to come ...
