The Book of Love

To steal a line from the classic song by the Monotones, who wrote the book of love? Apparently, a committee set up by the state of Florida.

The Family Law Handbook contains all the details about how to get a divorce, but conservative critics say it has little about how to maintain a successful marriage.

This could be changing. A bill calling for the appointment of a Marriage Education Committee consisting of family advocates to add marriage tips and recourses to the Handbook passed the Senate Judiciary Committee today by a unanimous vote.

Social and religious conservatives have made this bill a priority. The Florida Family Policy Council included this bill as one of the six Good Bills up in the 2010 session.

The bill has been referred to committee in the House.

UPDATE: The Florida Family Policy Council just sent out a release. Rep. Carl Domino, R-Jupiter, has not yet scheduled a hearing for the House version of the bill. If Domino does not putthe billon the agenda for the CivilJustice &Courts Policy Committee meeting on Monday, the measure will not emerge for the year.
