Bondi Seeking Zero Tolerance for Human Trafficking
Attorney General Pam Bondi will be joined by Sen. Anitere Flores, R-Miami, and Rep. William Snyder, R-Stuart, to push Wednesday for legislators to advance bills to make Florida "a zero-tolerance state" for human trafficking, according to a release from her office.
With Florida considered one of the top states for trafficking victims in the U.S., an anti-trafficking bill by Flores, SB 1880, has advanced through only a single committee. Snyders bill, HB 7049, has yet to be voted on by a committee.
The bills would give the state prosecutor authority to go after human trafficking cases and increase the penalty from a maximum of 15 years to 30 years for trafficking. The top sentence for human smuggling would also grow from one to five years.
Bondi, Flores and Snyder are scheduled to appear together at a media conference in the Capitol at 11 a.m.
