Bondi Joins National Effort to Curb Texting by Young Drivers

Attorney General Pam Bondi has joined a national effort urging young drivers not to text while driving.

One of the saddest aspects of deaths associated with texting while driving is that in many cases the deaths were preventable, Bondi stated in release. The Stop Texts, Stop Wrecks campaign educates parents and teens on the dangers of texting while driving, which will save lives.

The national campaign by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Ad Council will range from television and radio spots to posting on social media sites Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

According to a release from the attorney general's office, the NHTSA reports that distracted driving is the No. 1 killer of American teens. Sixteen percent of all drivers younger than 20 involved in fatal crashes were reported to have been distracted while driving, the release states.

All of the ads, created by New York advertising agency The Concept Farm, direct audiences to stoptextsstopwrecks.org, a website that offers tips on curbing the texting-while-driving behavior.
