Bobby DuBose Files to Run for Perry Thurston's House Seat

On Monday, Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Bobby DuBose filed to run for the House seat currently held by House Democratic Leader Perry Thurston, D-Fort Lauderdale. DuBose joins a crowded Democratic primary.

First elected to the Fort Lauderdale City Commission in 2009, DuBose rose to become vice mayor during 2011-2012. He won a second term in 2011. An insurance agent, DuBose was born in Fort Lauderdale.

DuBose joins three other candidates who are running for the Democratic nomination: Lauderdale Lakes City Commissioner Levoyd Williams, teacher and activist Eric Fowler and minister Jimmy O Glory Williams.

Whoever emerges in the Democratic primary in this contest should be heading to Tallahassee. This is one of the most Democratic districts in the state, with 68 percent of voters belonging to that party while only 14 percent are registered Republicans. Back in 2010, Alex Sink cruised in this district, taking 81 percent of the vote while Rick Scott mustered up 18 percent.
