Board of Governors Names Seven-Member Chancellor Search Committee

A group of seven committee members will lead the Board of Governors' search for a new university system chancellor for Florida after Frank Brogan announced he was stepping down from the position and taking his talents to Pennsylvania, where he will serve in a similar position.

Jan Ignash will serve as interim chancellor until a permanent replacement for Brogan is chosen. Ignash currently serves as vice chancellor and chief academic officer for Florida's university system, which includes the state's 12 public universities. She has held the position for about 18 months.

Although a first meeting to find the new chancellor has not yet been scheduled, the board's vice chairman Mori Hosseini will lead the search committee. One of the initial tasks of the first meeting will be outlining a timeline and the process for finding a permanent chancellor.

The board will consist of Tom Kuntz, chairman of the boards budget and finance committee;Elizabeth Webster, regional vice president of health services for Arcadian Health Plan;Wayne Huizenga Jr., president of Huizenga Holdings Inc.;Patricia Frost, a retired teacher, principal and member of the Florida International University board of trustees;Manoj Chopra, chairman of Floridas Advisory Council of Faculty Senates and an engineering professor at the University of Central Florida; and Ned Lautenbach, a retired partner from Clayton, Dubilier & Rice and former senior executive with IBM.

Choosing a chancellor of our state University System is among the greatest responsibilities of this Board of Governors, said Board of Governors chairman Dean Colson. I have complete confidence that this talented group will help the board identify another talented leader who understands our issues and will help us maintain our forward momentum toward national excellence.

Higher education is making an impact on this state like never before. We need a dynamic leader who will help us maintain that foothold and move even higher, Hosseini said. As we begin to tackle important issues such as performance-based funding, online learning and alignment of statewide strategic planning, we need someone who is passionate, diplomatic and hard-working. Were excited to find that perfect fit.
