Bill Proctor Applauds Senate Vote for Academic Pre-eminence Act
House Education Committee Chairman Rep. Bill Proctor, R-St. Augustine, praised the Florida Senate for passing the State Universities of Academic and Research Excellence and National Pre-eminence Act that is designed to make the state university system more globally competitive.
By offering qualifying universities the flexibility to set tuition at differentiated and market rates, we can ensure that our top institutions have the resources necessary to hire outstanding instructors and establish instructional programs that distinguish these universities from their national competitors, Proctor, who oversaw the committee that put the act together, stated in a release.
This job-creating legislation demonstrates that members of the Florida Legislature share Governor Scotts belief that Floridas universities are key economic engines for our state. This legislation will enable Florida universities to break into the top ranks of research universities in our country, which will enable our schools to attract the best talent from around the world.
