Bill Nelson Calls for More Thorough Background Checks for TSA, Airport Employees

U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., said on Friday he will soon unveil a bill making the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) increase security efforts at airports across the nation. 

Nelson said his bill will make the TSA do more thorough background checks on its own employees as well as airport employees. 

“In this age of terrorism, we can't afford to make any mistakes,” Nelson said.   

Nelson, the ranking Democrat on the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee, said he will probably team up with U.S. Sen. John Thune, R-SD, the chairman of the committee, on the bill.
