Bill McCollum Goes After Obama on Immigration

With health care executive Rick Scott ahead of him in the polls for the Republican gubernatorial nomination, Attorney General Bill McCollum came roaring out on Thursday on immigration, taking shots at President Barack Obamas plans for immigration reform.

President Obama has once again missed the point on immigration reform, announcing a massive overhaul proposal void of specifics that fails to address how the federal government will fulfill its two foremost responsibilities securing our borders and enforcing our nations immigration laws, said McCollum. President Obamas failure to do this has unfairly left the burden of solving Americas illegal immigration problems to state and local leaders and law enforcement.

With Scott blasting McCollum for opposing Arizonas tough new laws on immigration, the attorney general reiterated his support for that measure.

Instead of offering solutions to crack down on illegal immigration, President Obamas plan would allow amnesty for illegal aliens, rewarding those who break the law and penalizing the ones who play by the rules, said McCollum. States like Arizona have been forced to step up measures to address illegal immigration, and its time for Florida to do more, as well. Our nation is a nation of laws, and as governor I will advance policies to crack down on illegal immigration, empower Florida law enforcement officers and uphold the rule of law.
