Bill Galvano Set for Senate Presidency in 2018

Just weeks after Tom Lee proclaimed he was making a race for Florida Senate president, state Senate sources have confirmed with near-certainty that Sen. Bill Galvano, R-Bradenton, has put this race to bed in short order and is in line to assume one of the highest positions in state government in 2018.

State Sen. Nancy Detert, R-Venice, said there are still rumors of other senators talking about challenging Galvano, but said the battle is essentially over, according to the Herald-Tribune.Galvano seems to have had success bygathering strong support from both Joe Negron and Jack Latvala supporters who are trying to lock down the presidency that will precede Galvano's tenure.

In order to be considered for Senate president, Galvano will have to win re-election in 2014 and again in 2018.

With nine more years before he can term out of office, Capitol insiders are saying Galvano has a strong likelihood of playing a huge part in shaping Florida's future. If Galvano has a win under his belt it would also be aplus for incoming Senate President Andy Gardiner, since Galvano was a very early and unwavering supporter of Gardiner's leadership aspirations.
