Bilirakis: Obama 'Picking and Choosing' on Amnesty for Illegal Aliens
Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis took aim at President Barack Obama on immigration on Tuesday and called on the president to end his latest amnesty plan.
Bilirakis maintained that the administration was backing a policy to deport only select illegal aliens -- namely those who are criminals or are considered threats --while showing no signs of looking to deport the overwhelming majority of illegal aliens.
"This is yet another instance of the president and the administration picking and choosing what laws to enforce, or better yet, not enforce," said Bilirakis. "This latest amnesty plan lets people know that it is OK to be in this country illegally, which completely undermines the legal immigration process that we have here in America."
Bilirakis, a member of the House Homeland Security Committee, was one of 74 members of Congress who signed a letter to Obama calling on him to enforce all immigration laws. Seven other Republicans from Florida serving in Congress -- Sandy Adams, Vern Buchanan, Jeff Miller, Rich Nugent, Bill Posey, Dennis Ross and Allen West -- also signed the letter.
