Big Government is Greek to Connie Mack
While he generally focuses on Latin American affairs, Republican Congressman Connie Mack is now pointing to other regions of the globe -- and saying that the U.S. can learn a lesson. Mack said in a release today that the U.S. could end up like Greece, which just borrowed $40 billion from the International Monetary Fund to stabilize its sagging economic situation.
The debt crisis in Greece proves that unsustainable and out-of-control spending on big government programs will only lead to fiscal disaster, said Mack. Clearly, socialism doesnt work.
Our national debt is already over $14 trillion, and our deficit is topping record proportions, he added. The Democrats in Congress and the Administration should heed this warning carefully or the U.S. could end up like Greece bankrupt and begging for bailouts.
Those are strong words from Mack, but his record in Congress is one of limited government in the market, voting against both the Obama stimulus proposal as well as the one offered by George W. Bush in September and October 2008.
