Barack Obama Snubs Big Hispanic Meeting

President Barack Obama's re-election camp keeps talking about the need to corral Hispanic votes in 2012. So, how come the president is going to skip the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials Conference for the third year running? The conference begins Thursday in San Antonio.

He even promised the group, as a candidate in 2008, that he would come roaring back to speak at their meeting.

Now some members of NALEO, which includes more than 6,000 Hispanic leaders representing major blocs of voters in key states, are questioning his commitment to immigration reform. Deportations have actually increased during his presidency, they point out.

The Obama camp has been preaching its gospel to Hispanics and in several press releases made it known that the president will have a job returning to the White House if he doesn't have Hispanics behind him.

According to a story Sunday night in Politico.com, It is getting harder and harder for the president to go into a venue where he is confronted by Latinos, because he is in a jam, said Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., one of Obamas earliest Hispanic supporters and a member of NALEO.
