Barack Obama, Bill Nelson Bring Tax-and-Spend Party to FAU
Touting the so-called Buffett Rule, President Obama and his sidekick, Florida Sen. Bill Nelson, are at Florida Atlantic University today to lecture students on the need for more taxes.
Reiterating his call for still higher levies on the "wealthy," including small-business owners, Obama echoed Warren Buffett's populist complaints about an "inequitable" tax code (though not the billionaire's unpublicized personal wrangling with the IRS over his tax bills).
Republicans are unimpressed.
If President Obama and liberal U.S. Senator Nelson feel an overriding sense of guilt about their binge spending record in Washington -- which includes a failed stimulus and a costly government-run health-care law -- then they ought to send a personal check to the IRS, said Jahan Wilcox of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
"Asking Floridians to pay higher taxes is nothing new for Nelson because during his career in the Senate, he has voted over 150 times in favor of higher taxes," Wilcox said.
