'Awake the State' Rallies Expand to 29 Venues; Tea Party Focuses on Tally
Government workers, pro-union organizers and liberals of all stripes say they have added a dozen rallies to their roster of demonstrations planned for Tuesday.
The "Awake the State" website hosted by Progress Florida upped its total to 29 scheduled rallies across the state, including a second gathering in Tallahassee.
As previously reported by Sunshine State News, the "Awake's" morning event in the capital city will be at the Leon County Courthouse. Interestingly, the Progress Florida site claimed "120 attendees" had signed up as of Friday early afternoon. The permit request said "less than 100 people" were expected, and county officials say the location can accommodate no more than 100.
The second capital city rally will be at 5 p.m. at Kleman Plaza.
The biggest demonstration on Tuesday, the Legislature's opening day, will be at the old Capitol, where tea partiers will hold a "Save Our State" rally in support of Gov. Rick Scott and his proposed $5 billion in budget cuts and tax reductions. Festivities begin at 7 a.m., with a rally at noon.
