Attorney License Suspended for Ex Alcee Hastings Aide
Among the nine attorneys to have their legal license suspended last month by the Florida Supreme Court was Mikel David Jones, a former aide to U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Miramar.
Mikel David Jones, 4781 N. Congress Ave., Boynton Beach, suspended until further order, effective 30 days from an April 16 court order. (Admitted to practice: 1999.) Jones was found guilty in federal court of conspiracy, wire fraud, mail fraud and money laundering -- all felonies (case No. SC12-698) --the announcement from The Florida Bar stated last week.
In November, Jones and his wife were found guilty by a federal jury of scheming to defraud a New York venture capital fund of approximately $350,000 that had helped finance Jones private law firm in Philadelphia.
After the conviction, Hastings issued a statement declaring that Joneswas no longer employed by his congressional office.Jones had been with Hastings for 15 years.
Hastings had suspended Jones in May after the federal charges were filed.
