
Attorney General Pam Bondi Outlaws Additional Synthetic Drugs
Attorney General Pam Bondi today filed an emergency ruleoutlawing 22 new synthetic drugs, commonly called bath salts, K2 orSpice. Bondi was joined by law enforcement officers anda health practitioner as she announced the emergency rule designating newsynthetic drugs as Schedule I of controlled substances, making it athird-degree felony for an individual to sell, manufacture, or deliver, orpossess with intent to sell, manufacture or deliver" these drugs. Syntheticdrugs can cause psychotic episodes, hallucinations, seizures, paranoia,tremors, and more, according to her office.
Synthetic cannabinoids have been linked to thousands of emergencydepartment visits across the country, and a majority of those visits are bypatients ages 12-29, Bondi says in a press release. I am grateful toour law enforcement partners and the health care community for theircontinued dedication to protecting Floridas youth from these horribledrugs.
These dangerous drugs are widely available in smoke shops, truck stops,convenience stores and through the internet, FDLE Commissioner GeraldBailey also says in the statement. Retailers who stock these products have two options: surrendertheir inventory or face enforcement action.
