Attacking Hasner and LeMieux, DSCC Starts Sweating Over Bill Nelson
Former state House Majority Leader Adam Hasner has reached the big-time in his bid for the Republican nomination. Not only did he win the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) straw poll on Friday, Hasners now drawn fire from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC).
The DSCC released a statement on Monday bashing Hasner and Republican primary rival former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux.
You would think that George LeMieuxs pledge to balance the budget on the backs of Florida's seniors by gutting Medicare and Social Security would make him extreme enough to win the support of the far-right wing in Florida, said Matt Canter, a spokesman for the DSCC. But LeMieux just cant shake off the stench of his old best friend, Republican turncoat Charlie Crist, or the months he spent trying to take down tea party prince Marco Rubio as one of Crists top political advisers. While LeMieux continues to struggle, Adam Hasner is riling up the most extreme Republicans in Florida with a winning combination of ending Medicare and a hysterical obsession with Sharia Law.
Hard-working Floridians deserve independent leaders who fight to bring jobs to the state, not right-wing extremists like Adam Hasner or corrupt insiders like George LeMieux, who would both gut Medicare and Social Security just to preserve tax breaks for millionaires and big oil companies, added Canter.
With a poll from Quinnipiac University released last week showing that 58 percent of Republican voters remained undecided on who to support against Democratic incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, these attacks seem a little off -- until you take into account that the same poll showed Nelson under 50 percent across the board despite his many decades on the Florida political stage.
While this Senate election is not getting much attention, its shaping up as one of the more interesting primary and general elections in 2012.
